CHRONIC DISEASE PREVENTION PROGRAM MANAGER
Picturesque Cumberland County is the State’s most populous county having a population of 289,977. Its largest city is Portland and
the county geographically extends from Casco Bay to the Lakes Region. Cumberland County has the second largest body of water in
the state, Sebago Lake, which provides numerous recreational opportunities. The County is the economic and industrial center of

elected county commissioners and the county manager runs the daily operations.
JOB PURPOSE:
The Chronic Disease Prevention Program Manager is responsible for the leadership, management, and coordination of Cumberland
County’s Maine Prevention Network (MPN), a State grant funded program of the County’s Public Health Department. This position
provides grant oversight, program management, and staff supervision to implement public health prevention services including
those focusing on the prevention of tobacco and substance use, and the promotion of healthy eating, active living. Additionally, this
position will ensure the focus of the prevention strategies are on groups of people and regions of the County with the greatest
barriers to health. The position will facilitate the creation and maintenance of a prevention infrastructure which will include
facilitating meetings and providing support and technical assistance to MPN funded staff, including staff of sub award organizations.
This position will also provide direct education and partnership development with key stakeholders, community and government
leaders.
QUALIFICATIONS:
● Bachelor’s Degree in public health, health promotion or community health education; Master’s Degree preferred.
● 5 or more years of related work experience required; project management experience preferred
● Prior experience in the preparation, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of federal and state grants
● Experience in health promotion, public health, and harm reduction
● Ability to use a software platform for data collection, reports, invoices, etc.
● Experience creating and/or facilitating collaborations for implementing prevention strategies
● Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally
● Working knowledge of community resources and services
● Courtesy, dependability, good judgment and possession of a high ethical standard
● Knowledge of preventative health strategies and risk reduction techniques
● Work effectively with people from various backgrounds and cultures.
