MaineGeneral Health has a Full time opportunity for a Health Educator to join the staff at the Peter Alfond Prevention & Healthy Living Center. The primary role of this position is to conduct health education classes throughout the MaineGeneral Health service area which may include: Tobacco use prevention, Smoking Cessation, Nutrition, Physical Activity, Immunization and Prevention of infectious disease, Lyme disease, Environmental Health Hazards, Cardiovascular Disease/Hypertension, Health Risk Assessment, Pre-Diabetes and Diabetes, and Chronic Disease Self-Management.  If a variable schedule fits your lifestyle, and you have a passion for community health improvement…we want to hear from you!

Responsibilities:

  • Organizes and implements Prevention & Healthy Living education initiatives
  • Assists MaineGeneral Health Department managers with prevention and health education program design related to priority clinical service lines
  • Provides health education services to patients and the community
  • Serves on community health coalition boards as assigned
  • Collects outcome and process data, maintains statistical records, writes and files reports for all Community Health Improvement initiatives
  • Works collaboratively with other MGH departments on worksite, school-based, and community outreach activities
  • Provides coverage and support to the centralized phone system

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Community Health or related degree
  • 1 year or more health education instruction experience
  • Group facilitation experience and skills
  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) preferred
  • National Diabetes Prevention Program Lifestyle Coach certification preferred
