Important Board Announcement

Apr 29, 2016

Greetings MPHA members:

It is with bittersweet emotions that we write to let you know that Tina Pettingill, MPH, MPHA’s Executive Director for the past 8 years, has resigned from her position. While we are sad to see Tina leave, we are excited for her to start a new chapter at MaineHealth as Director of Community Education, and wish her all the best.

During Tina’s tenure as executive director, she has overseen significant growth of the organization, quadrupling our membership to more than 400. Tina has raised $400k+ in grant funding for MPHA, receiving support from several foundations, including the Bingham Foundation, MeHAF, and the Maine Cancer Foundation. This funding has been instrumental in growing the organization and public health visibility in Maine. Last year, Tina oversaw the production of the Touched by Tobacco videos. These videos have received national accolades, increased legislative support for tobacco control efforts, and promoted the personal costs of tobacco use.

Tina has spent much of her time in Augusta, representing MPHA, and preparing and giving testimonies about a range of public health issues, including food marketing, tobacco, environmental health risks, seatbelt safety, substance abuse, and immunizations. She has strengthened our partnerships with allied organizations, such as the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Maine Medical Association, hospital systems, and many, many more. Tina also oversaw the efforts of the Friends of the Fund for a Healthy Maine, working hard to protect essential funding for Maine’s public health infrastructure and programming.

Tina’s passion for public health, sense of humor, and calm under pressure have been key to the organization’s success. She lights up a room by always having a smile on her face, and recognizing when her friends and colleagues could use a hug. Tina has juggled being a working mom, caregiver, and public health leader with grace. We have been fortunate to have such an intelligent, articulate, passionate, committed, and engaging executive director. Tina has built a strong presence for MPHA, and we are so grateful for her service to promoting public health in Maine. Tina is a respected colleague and treasured friend to many in the public health community. We look forward to continuing our partnership with her. Thank you, Tina!

Please know, the MPHA board is committed to finding a qualified and talented replacement, and to ensuring that MPHA will continue to thrive. We will share the position announcement once it is available.

With sincere best regards,
MPHA Board of Directors
