Public Health Policy Ambassadors
Maine Public Health Association (MPHA) serves as the voice for public health professionals and organizations across Maine - advocating, acting, and advising on critical public health issues at the local, state, and federal levels. We are looking for a small group of MPHA members to serve as ambassadors and champions for public health, with an emphasis on MPHA’s policy priorities, including engaging in policymaker education and grassroots outreach. Expectations
- Two-year commitment, covering both legislative sessions
- Participate in regularly scheduled meetings (time and frequency decided by the group and legislative calendar)
- Commit to an average of five hours per month to activities during the legislative session
- Serve as an ambassador for MPHA and champion for public health
- Reach out to your existing networks to promote advocacy and policymaker education opportunities
- Be a member in good standing of MPHA during the duration of your term
- Serve as an independent person, not a representative of your organization or school, or MPHA
Responsibilities
ContribExpectations:ute to MPHA’s advocacy and policymaker education efforts, including, but not limited to:
- Drafting testimony
- Submitting testimony (as an individual)
- Outreach and recruitment of constituents to participate in action alerts
- Writing op-eds
- Phone banking
- Developing issue briefs and fact sheets
- Developing policy statements
- Outreach to policymakers (phone and email) on specific issues
- In-district meetings with policymakers
- Attending policymaker town halls
- Bill tracking
Qualifications
- Commitment to MPHA’s mission and policy priorities
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Experience with or willingness to learn advocacy and policymaker education, and grassroots outreach
- Willingness to step outside your comfort zone with policymaker outreach and education
